Best Drugstore Cushion Compact – Best Drugstore Foundation 2017

When the K-beauty-bred, liquid foundation compact trend first came to the fore, it was a game changer. The much-needed solution for nomadic women who live out of their handbag (my M.O.), Estée Lauder’s Double Wear To Go dispenser has been my go to. However, at $45 a pop, it’s a luxury and I’ve kept my eyes peeled for an alternative for whenever a budget cut back is in order.

While the drugstore market had dipped its toe into cushion compact game, nothing came close to rivaling my beloved Double Wear. In every instance, alternatives didn’t provide enough coverage or the finish was a little too sheeny for my liking. However, this changed when I got my hands on Maybelline’s new Dream Cushion Luminous Liquid Foundation.

Double tap if you’re excited for the new #dreamcushion! This foundation allows you to apply liquid foundation on the go and gives you medium-full coverage while still keeping your skin looking fresh. Get it in stores in the US, Canada and select markets in Europe at the end of this month and in early 2017 in Australia!

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. First, despite being super-pigmented, the texture is air-light, buttery smooth, and blends seamlessly. Housed in the delightfully squishy, pre-soaked sponge, a little goes a long way with the tap of a fingertip. Then there’s the medium-to-full coverage, which I can customize to different parts of my face as needed. It diffuses the redness on my cheeks just the way I like it—leaving a natural-looking trace of my natural flush. And you can see my freckles too! Lastly, it’s got my favorite type of finish: Dewy-but-not-too-dewy. Tasteful luminosity, if you will. With a few dustings of loose powder in between, it holds up nicely on my combination (oily on the T-zone, dry everywhere else) complexion through the day.

It’s also worth noting that when I’m too lazy to wet my Beautyblender, don’t want to get foundation all over my fingers, or am in the midst of a mad dash, the small, puffed sponge applicator that comes with the compact works just fine for pressing it into the skin for a melted effect.

At $15.99, the Dream Cushion is an utter steal. And for those that have yet to know the wonders of a liquid compact, let this be the catalyst for jumping on the bandwagon. Your face beat will thank you.
