This week at a benefit event in New York City, actress Angie Harmon stepped out wearing a high ponytail that was simple, polished and just downright pretty. It also looked strangely familiar to me, so I looked back over some older pictures of Harmon and realized why—this pulled-back style is a signature of hers. She pairs it with anything from sweaters and jeans to glittering evening gowns. It’s apparent she’s found a look that works for her, nicely complementing her square face as well as her feminine-but-edgy style.
Harmon’s not the only celebrity that has found a look that suits her and stuck with it. I can’t remember the last time I saw Angelina Jolie walk down the red carpet without a strong, black cat eye. Sometimes it’s just a stroke of liner, sometimes it’s a bit shadowy and smoky, but either way it’s always sexy.
Maggie Gyllenhaal has also figured out what works for her. The actress’s favorite accessory is a bold lipstick, be it bright red, fiery orange, or a vibrant fuchsia. Playing up her lips keeps her overall look playful, but still glamorous.
I love to experiment with different looks (bright lips one night, winged liner the next!), but if I’m in too much of a hurry to play around and I want to look my best, I always do a subtly smoky eye: black liner, gray eye shadow, and lots of mascara. What about you—do you have a go-to look that you keep coming back to?
