Met Gala 2018: How Lily Aldridge Got Her Simple Knotted Hairstyle

There were countless crowns, tons of tiaras, a handful of heavenly halos, and a very bling-y papal hat worn by none other than Rihanna on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual gala. And yet, sometimes a demure knot does the trick, as evidenced by Victoria’s Secret Angel Lily Aldridge on Monday evening.

“People are usually more open to taking risks at Met Gala, which makes it a great opportunity to play with the nexus of modern and classic looks,” explains Bryce Scarlett, Moroccanoil celebrity hairstylist. With a canary-yellow shirtdress by Ralph Lauren serving as the inspiration, the pro opted for a “simple, modern take” on Sophia Loren, the iconic Italian bombshell who starred in The Priest’s Wife. Scarlett adds, “We kept the hair classic in a timeless chignon with height at the crown and a Bardot bang.”

To get the look, he used a dime-size amount of Moroccanoil Treatment and spritzed strands with a heat protector before working Volumizing Mousse into roots. After blowing hair smooth with a round brush and slicing a neat center part, Scarlett tucked strands behind the model’s ears to frame the face. Next, he used Dry Texture Spray to create even more body before pulling hair into a pony and wrapping the tail into a low-slung chignon. Luminous Hairspray Medium acted as the finishing touch to secure the style in place.

Loren may have seduced a man of the cloth on the silver screen, but Aldridge entranced the masses at the Met Gala with a knotted look.
