Internet trolls go after people for the strangest reasons. Tess Holliday has been shamed for her workout routine. Blogger Tayset Kenton was trolled over her arm hair. And now, Sarah Michelle Gellar is getting trolled for simply taking her son Rocky to get a manicure with her. Some people are even going so far as to call it child abuse, which is totally ridiculous.
According to The Hollywood Gossip, Gellar posted images to her Instagram story documenting her cute outing with her five-year-old son. She took him with her to get a manicure and posted a few photos throughout the experience.
Rocky apparently chose a polish color that matched his mom’s, which is especially cute. He seemed super happy with the results and even posed for a picture for Gellar’s Instagram feed, flashing his nails for all to see. However, what seems like a harmless mother-son outing was of course taken out of context by the Internet, and The Hollywood Gossip captured screenshots of folks commenting all sorts of strange things.
According to The Hollywood Gossip, rather than focus on the mother-son bonding and the cute activity, Internet trolls decided to make something negative out of the whole thing, and commented online that Gellar was “brainwashing her son with her sick ideologies.” They apparently thought that allowing a young boy to get his nails painted would “confuse him” when it came to his gender and even went so far as to call it child abuse. Another commenter even said, “this kind of thing should be outlawed.”
The thing is, makeup, nail polish, skin care, and other beauty products aren’t gendered, and people of all genders should feel comfortable using whatever beauty products they want without fearing Internet backlash.
