When you think of Drew Barrymore, a few adjectives might come to mind—free-spirited, bohemian, and tattooed among them. But now that she’s married, the flower child is having her signature tats lasered off in keeping with her new faith (you can’t be buried in a Jewish cemetery with tattoos). Also, according to a source (read: chatty friend), “Drew also wants to be a Santa Barbara mom, and tattoos clash with that wardrobe.” Our Drew is all grown up. Which begs the question: Who is Drew Barrymore without a butterfly on her ankle?
While I get the practical reasons for the change—and, for the record, I hate tattoos myself—the idea of someone changing their appearance for a guy just makes me sad. Especially when that someone is a flower child who practically embodies independence and girl power. And while I don’t think you should alter your hair or makeup for anyone but yourself, tattoos seem seem extra poignant because, presumably, you intended to have them forever. It’s erasing something that was supposed to be a permanent part of you.
