Gwendoline Christie plays the totally badass Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, and she’s about to make her Hunger Games debut as Commander Lyme in Mockingjay Part 2. Oh, and the 36-year-old actress plays a freaking stormtrooper in the new Star Wars movie, out in December. If that wasn’t enough to make you want to be her best friend, today she was named one of Harper Bazaar’s 2015 Women Who Dare.
Christie is six foot three (six foot seven with heels on) and told Harpers Bazaar that she’s dealt with height discrimination in the acting industry for years, especially from women. But, in her interview with Harper’s Bazaar, she also revealed two hilarious reasons why being a supertall women is actually pretty great.
“You can get to the bar easier,” says Christie, who’s also starred in Vivenne Westwood’s ad campaign. “You can catch the bar person’s eye, and mouth what you want, and by the time you’re there, you’ve got it. I’m like a human plow. I also have a selfie-stick arm. To get the same angle as I get with my selfie arm, you’d need a crane.”
Tall women, take note. Sure, you’ll never have to spend money on a selfie stick (or look ridiculous holding one) but you almost never have to worry about people stepping on you (short people problems). So the next time you have feelings about being tall, think about Christie’s confidence and rise above it. (Sorry, had to go there.) Head over to Harper’s Bazaar to read Christie’s entire interview.
