Olivia Wilde was known for a certain type of experimentation on The O.C.—and no, we’re not just talking about those scenes with Mischa Barton. The beauty risk-taker, and now the face of Revlon, also found her love for makeup on the show (that’s her in character as Alex Kelly in 2004). “I learned about eye makeup, probably from The O.C. I was using more eyeliner and realizing that was going to be my look,” she says. As for her character’s beauty routine? “I don’t remember planning the butterfly tattoo. If you watch the show for that year I was on it, it probably moved six inches up and down,” says Wilde. The purple hair also didn’t stick. “I think we were inspired by Gwen Stefani with the hair,” says Wilde. “My character very quickly didn’t have the bouffant because it was distracting.”
