A legend never goes out of style, and 73-year-old Lauren Hutton certainly counts as one. The ’70s icon just landed herself a gig that models a fraction of her age would kill for. Hutton is one of the latest crop of famous faces chosen to star in Calvin Klein’s Spring 2017 underwear campaign, “Calvin Klein or Nothing At All.” Of course, she is looking radiant AF in the Sophia Coppola-shot ads, which include women as young as 18 years old. In a spot for the project, Hutton as recalls a time she was hit on walking across a courtyard that had “a lot of guys around.”
“I was walking really fast because I didn’t want them to hit on me,” she says. Of course, since she’s freaking Lauren Hutton, she was approached, this time by a man asking her if she wanted a ride in his truck. Hutton mentions that it was such a corny line, but she couldn’t resist his charm. “I said okay, but just one block.”
The campaign includes Kirsten Dunst, Rashida Jones, Chase Sui Wonders, Maya Hawke, Nathalie Love, and Laura Harrier. Coppola says she looked to vintage CK campaigns to inform this project, citing the iconic Kate Moss ads from the ’90s, and ““The old Avedon commercials with Andie MacDowell… I feel like those images made a big impression on me in my formative years.”
It seems that over the past few years, more brands have been embracing older models for underwear and even swimsuit campaigns. New Zealand-based label Lonely Lingerie recently cast 57-year-old Mercy Brewer to front its Fall 2017 campaign. Lingerie brand Land of Women tapped then-60-year-old Yazemeenah Rossi to appear in both its swim and underwear campaigns. Then-56-year-old Nicola Griffin nabbed herself a spot in the pages of Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit Issue wearing a gold bikini in an ad for Swimsuits for All.
Of course, we have a ways to go in the fashion and beauty world when it comes to age diversity and inclusion, but seeing a 73-year-old model pose in a bra for one of the most well-known underwear brands? We’d say that’s a pretty good start.
