Update: February 3, 2017, 12:00 p.m. ET: A day after Steven Kolb, the president and chief executive officer of the CFDA, spoke out against Kanye West’s decision to stage Yeezy Season 5 at New York Fashion Week, West has decided to move the show two hours earlier.
Yeezy Season 5 will now start at 3 p.m. on February 15 instead of 5 p.m., which originally conflicted with Marchesa’s time slot.
In a statement to WWD, Kolb said he was personally approached by West, who was unaware of the schedule conflict. “The CFDA appreciates Kanye’s outreach and effort, and we look forward to working with him far in advance to integrate Yeezy into the schedule in seasons to come,” said Kolb.
Update: February 1, 2017, 6:00 p.m. ET: Kanye West announced he will showcase Yeezy Season 5 at New York Fashion Week on February 15 at 5 p.m., the same time Marchesa is set to show its new collection. According to a report by WWD, the musician/designer did not consult the Council of Fashion Designers of America about his decision to put on the show—and it is not pleased about it.
Steven Kolb, president and chief executive officer of the CFDA, told WWD that the organization “was not approached or consulted about the possibility of Kanye West showing on the official New York Fashion Week schedule.” The CFDA is responsible for working with over 300 fashion brands to avoid any schedule mishaps like this one. Due to the lack of communication, the organization decided to not list the Yeezy show on the official schedule, but Kolb said it is “more than willing to work with Kanye on securing an available time slot.”
Update: January 31, 2017, 4:30 p.m. ET: Kanye fans, get ready. The musician/designer will debut Yeezy Season 5 at New York Fashion Week on February 15 at 5 p.m. Unlike past seasons, which took place at large and far-flung venues like Madison Square Garden and Roosevelt Island, the latest collection will be unveiled at Pier 59 Studios at Chelsea Piers, a familiar NYFW locale to the fashion set.

Kanye West has recently been spotted in the studio, dreaming up new music with producer Pete Rock, but he’s been focusing his attention on fashion, as well. The musician/designer is reportedly gearing up to present season 5 of Yeezy and launch a new apparel line, according to Page Six.
Given the timing, it’s possible that West could be working towards showing the next Yeezy collection at New York Fashion Week, which kicks off February 9. If so, there wouldn’t be a gap between seasons for West, who last showed his spring 2017 collection in September. The last collection went viral when models collapsed in the 86-degree weather during the presentation held at Roosevelt Island in New York City. Some models couldn’t even finish walking in the show in the shoes West designed.

Considering the demand for Yeezy and the public’s collective fascination with his wife Kim Kardashian West’s style—which he often assists with—it seems like a no-brainer that ‘Ye is looking to relaunch a second fashion line. But maybe this time, he could go in the opposite direction of Yeezy and work on something more democratic and affordable. “The least I could do is spend my time trying to give other people a piece of the so-called good life,” he told Style.com two winters ago. “Everyone should have the good life…I think high fashion is about elitism and separation, and I am completely opposed to that.”
