Tiffany Haddish attended the 2018 Oscars for the very first time on Sunday night, so you know she had to serve up a major look. Of course, her getup was regal and glamorous as hell, but it also carries a very important and special meaning. In a red carpet interview with ABC’s Michael Strahan, the comedian explained her outfit’s significance. “My father is from Eritrea and he passed away last year, and he said one day I would end up here, and if I ever end up at the Oscars, to honor my people. So I’m honoring my fellow Eritreans,” she said.
Haddish definitely made her late father proud. She wore a floor-length, cream-colored strapless gown with intricate gold-and-black embroidery around the neckline, hemline, and down the front of the dress. She topped the princess-like gown with a black jacket with matching gold detailing around the edges. She accessorized with oversized gold hoop earrings, rings, and bracelets; and wore her hair in a high, braided bun, topped with an elegant golden headpiece.

Haddish, who some felt was snubbed by the Academy for her scene-stealing role in Girls Trip, was scheduled to present an award at Sunday night’s ceremony, following a hilarious turn as the announcer of the nominations back in January. She spoke to Strahan about how excited she was to be at the historic Dolby Theatre for “Hollywood’s biggest night.” “It is heaven to me. It’s like a dream come true. I’ve sat and watched the Oscars for years, I always wanted to go, and now I’m here.” Haddish, who will host the MTV Movie & TV Awards this summer, said. “It’s amazing. Like, Kobe Bryant’s movie is nominated — he’s the first NBA player to be nominated. It’s like…historical.”
