Topshop’s Clear-Knee Jeans Are Totally Dividing the Internet

From hip-huggers to throwback flares, there seems to be an endless number of possibilities when it comes to denim. Two years ago, the fashion set ditched the skinny in favor of loose and distressed boyfriend jeans. Last year, ’90s-inspired mom jeans made a comeback thanks to a bevy of stars like Kendall Jenner and Rihanna. But our award for the most polarizing denim style goes to Topshop’s clear-knee jeans.

The Internet is up in arms over the retailer’s latest design, which is either an abomination to fashion or the coolest pants of 2017, depending on who you ask. The style looks like any old light-washed, high-waisted jeans, except for the fact that it has clear plastic panels on the knees that the Internet has affectionately renamed “knee windows” or “jindows.”

Here’s how Topshop describes the “MOTO Clear Panel Mom Jeans” on its website: “Crafted from pure cotton, our MOTO mom jeans come in authentic mid blue rigid-look denim. Cut with a high-waist and a tapered leg, they are finished with multiple pockets, classic trims and cool clear knee panel detail.” The retailer suggests folding the cuffs to “keep them looking cool.”

On the one hand, the jeans are kind of ridiculous. Even just the idea of “plastic mom jeans” is pretty much insane. But on the other hand, they totally look like something Kim Kardashian West would wear with a pair of transparent Yeezy booties, and then be commended for her risk-taking style by fashion bloggers everywhere. Needless to say, it’s all pretty perplexing, and the Twitterverse is having an understandably tough time deciding how it feels about the jeans:

We have to admit, they’re definitely unique; and on a practical level, you’ll never have to worry about knee rips or grass stains again.

Topshop’s clear-knee jeans are available at and for $95. For all the skeptics out there, keep in mind that people weren’t so accepting of boyfriend jeans, mom jeans, and even skinny jeans back in the day. So who knows? Maybe a year from now, all of our pants will be equipped with #jindows.
