There are few things more luxurious than coming home and lighting a Byredo candle in your living room…aside from maybe lighting one in your bedroom. Or next to your bathtub. Or with a big glass of wine. But the brand’s candles are pricey, averaging about $90 each. But thanks to Byredo’s new collaboration with Ikea, you can now do all those things, a lot more accessibly.
On Monday, the Swedish fragrance line announced that it would be teaming up with the Swedish furniture store to offer a limited-edition collection of home scents, The Cut reports. According to Ikea’s blog, the collaboration aims to get people to reconsider the way they think about smell in the home. “I know most people have associations of visiting their grandmother’s house — whether it’s her perfume or the flowers or her cooking — smell is a very relevant part of the home,” Byredo founder Ben Gorham said on the blog. “It creates a sense of comfort and security. We seldom speak of it and I think this project enforces that as well: getting people to think about smell.”
Considering smell is the sense linked most closely with memory, it’s a seemingly obvious choice to include in home decor. And since Byredo is known for fragrances that “smell as chic as they look,” the new affordable line will be the perfect addition to any room in your house. That being said, we don’t know exactly how much the candles will cost but we’re betting at least half the usual Byredo price.
Sadly, you’ll have to wait until 2019 to get your hands (and coffee tables and bathrooms) on the collection. The details are still mysterious, but we do know that there will be some sort of cinnamon-bun scent, which is famously known for wafting through the hallways of Ikea stores in Sweden.
“We’re trying to develop a ton of smells enforcing the idea that everyone has a different relationship to it, and nothing is right or wrong,” Gorham said. His goal is to take a “democratic approach to smell,” which involves using scent to set a scene and tell creative stories. 2019 can’t come soon enough.
