It’s easy to assume that anyone who’s part of a family of supermodels would have both perfect genes and matching confidence to boot. Not so, according to Bella Hadid. The 21-year-old says that growing up, she was actually uncomfortable with her appearance and felt particularly insecure about the thickness (or lack thereof) of her eyebrows.
“Growing up, I was always self-conscious about my brows but I never knew that you could do something about it,” Hadid told Cosmopolitan. “I’ve always had really thin brows, I got them from my dad. I was also kind of chubbier growing up until I was 15, so there were a lot of things I had to grow into — I definitely had to grow into my face a lot. I wasn’t very secure with myself until recently.” Hadid also added, “I think I had more beauty insecurities growing up than probably anybody.”
While, yes, Cara Delevingne–level brows are certainly enviable, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with embracing a naturally sparse look. Still, if full brows are the look you’re going for, follow Bella’s lead: The model says she fills hers in, no microblading. “Fake it till you make it, I guess,” she told Cosmo. “Brows are such a beautiful part of a woman and a man’s face, so to be able to enhance them now is revolutionary for me.” And when all else fails, Bella opts to camouflage her brows with some textured bangs that fall right below the brow bone.
As for her face shape, Hadid says she “doesn’t contour every day” but “it’s life-changing for sure.” Perhaps her next beauty move could be turning her eyebrows into miniature high heels or fish tails? Just a thought!
