The queen of burlesque just swapped out her signature look for something silvery. For decades, Dita Von Teese has been known for her jet-black hair (which is typically styled into 1940s-inspired curls), candy-apple red lipstick, and dramatic winged eyeliner. Even if you’ve never watched her performances, you probably can identify her based on those elements alone. But for a recent Instagram post she subbed a gorgeous gray wig for her dark hair. Unlike celebrities who look downright, well, weird without their signature look, Von Teese slays with her new frosty locks. Having them coifed to look like her usual pageboy-style curls might have helped her case.
For the photo shoot, Von Teese called upon hairstylist Tony Medina, who she often works with. He’s known for creating retro styles for celebrities like Andra Day, Tess Holiday, and RuPaul’s Drag Race alums, too. Just in case you don’t believe that Von Teese didn’t dye her hair (or is going completely gray), Medina confirmed that the gray hair was indeed a wig in a follow-up to Von Teese’s Instagram post. In his own post, he credited the hairpiece to The Hair Shop, a Los Angeles-based store that sells high-end hair extensions and wigs.
Not only am I living for the entire look, I also love that Dita Von Teese referred to herself as a silver fox. Women don’t have fun nicknames for when they go gray, so I’m glad she claimed this affectionate one (usually used in reference to men like Anderson Cooper) and made it her own. She truly knows how to uphold her living-icon status.
