Ask any hairstylist which celebrity clients bring hairspiration to the chair, and Jenna Dewan will inevitably be one of the responses. Whether she’s rocking a shoulder-grazing lob, a blunt bob, or a set of hair extensions, Dewan always manages to nail the look. That’s why when her fans requested a hair tutorial, Dewan graciously obliged, sharing the products she uses every day for her signature look or, as she names it, a “natural wind-swept beachy vibe.”
In the video on her YouTube channel, Dewan casually namedrops BFFs and hairstylists Kristin Ess and Jen Atkin, who she’s clearly learned a few things from. Her everyday hair includes a mix of products from Ess’s and Atkin’s lines, with the caveat being that Dewan’s main priority is a speedy hairstyle. “I always try to keep it super simple and ready-to-go,” she explains in the video. “I don’t spend a lot of time on my hair, so I have to have a haircut and products that I can literally put in my hair, scrunch, and use and go.”
Dewan’s definition of “super simple” means five to six products every day. Here are her faves and how she uses them:
Kristin Ess Weightless Shine Leave-In Conditioner
Her first post-shower product comes courtesy of Ess, one of Dewan’s “greatest friends in the world.” She spritzes product from her mid-lengths to ends. FYI, this one is super scented, so get ready for lots of compliments in addition to frizz-free hair.
Ouai Wave Spray
Next up is a product from her “other friend” and noted Kardashian hairstylist Jen Atkin. Dewan uses it to help bring out her natural texture without getting “too crunchy.” Pro tip: It comes in a travel size, so Dewan suggests keeping it in your go bag.
Kristin Ess Sea Salt Air-Dry Spray
Keep the texturizing products coming — Dewan adds this sea salt spray to polish her natural waves. “It’s as if you went to the beach,” she says.
Kristin Ess Weightless Shine Working Serum
This product reportedly made it onto the World of Dance set. Dewan uses this “every single day” while shooting to keep her hair smooth and shiny on camera.
Ouai Texturizing Hair Spray
When she wants her hair to look more polished, she layers on wave sprays, pausing in between each to let them dry. The hairspray helps lock in the texturized style she’s created.
Oribe Surfcomber Tousled Texture Mousse
For “a lot of texture and a lot of volume,” she’ll layer this on for that “beach girl, ‘I was at Malibu all day'” look.
Batiste Dry Shampoo
This drugstore fave helps Dewan save a few precious Mommy minutes and keeps her next-day hair looking fresh. “It’s just the best find, take it from a dance recital girl,” she says.
