We’re loving Jennifer Lawrence’s latest hair transformation. The actress is no stranger to drastic color, dyeing her hair from blonde to black to red for roles, but this is the first time we’ve seen her go short. I asked Mark Townsend, her hairstylist of three years, about the inspiration behind the big cut, her reaction, and the products he sent her home with.
Was the haircut for a role, or did she just want a change?
“It wasn’t for a role…it was totally spontaneous. Her hair had quite a bit of damage from all the coloring, so I thought we’d take about four inches off, but she kept telling me to take off more and more. I was the nervous one, because she had never said she wanted to go shorter before, but she was so excited. I ended up cutting about eight inches.”
I always wonder: Do celebrities bring inspiration pictures with them to the salon like us normal folks?
“She had a picture of Dianna Agron. It was a cut with choppy layers.”
Did she freak out when she saw the length?
“She loved it from the first chop. She couldn’t stop running her fingers through her hair as I was cutting. When she was getting dressed, she said, “Oh my god, it feels so good, it’s never been this short!”
What products is she using to maintain the look at home?
“I’m putting together a kit for her with Dove Whipped Cream Mousse, which helps keep her natural wave in, Sally Hershberger Genuis Spray Wax, which I spray on damp hair and run through with my fingers, and Oribe Dry Texture Spray.”
