Whoa, is that Olivia Thirlby? The actress, who had shaggier hair in Juno and The Wackness, looks so sophisticated with this pixie cut. The Being Flynn star looks exotic; older, in a glam way. And that her hair is longer in the front is keeping the short cut feminine. It’s exactly what you want out of a pixie.
I had a pixie for years and can say they are great for the lazy. The right gamine cut always looks crisp and put-together with minimal effort and less product. But is the cut for you?
As Allure reported in our “Hottest Cuts” story, short hair does work for most face shapes but if you have a wide, square face, you should add side-swept bangs. Texture-wise, if your hair is curly, you should keep it at least two inches long.
Personally, I just wish that I’d known one thing before my shortest cut: My own propensity for cowlicks. Hairstylist Oscar Blandi of the Oscar Blandi Salon in New York City told Allure that if you’re prone to cowlicks, you should keep your hair at least three inches long “or it will get spiky.” Whoops! Some things are just trial and error. But there are plenty of short hair mistakes you can avoid. Check out our helpful slideshows.
