The obsession with balayage and ombré is never-ending, and this fall, we’ve seen so many gorgeous, season-appropriate hair-color trends. One of the spring and summer’s more popular hues was rose gold, and it looks like the color will continue to be hot in the streets through fall. We’ve already seen an autumnal update to the color on brown hair. And thanks to Instagram, we stumbled upon an equally gorgeous version of autumn rose gold.
It’s soft, it’s subtle, and not too pastel or pinky. In other words, it’s perfect for fall.
Jay Rua, a Las Vegas hairstylist and salon owner, shared images from a recent and very notable transformation of a client, who went from bashful to blush. To give Rua full credit, he was undaunted when this specific lady sat down in his chair ready to change things up, even though her hair was 24 inches long and he knew it would eat up most of his day. And it did — the process took nearly six hours. But the result is stunning.
“She absolutely loved it,” he tells Allure.
The color is not for the meek, shy, or anyone wanting to blend in. It’s statement-making and pretty metallic. It makes me think of early pink convert Sienna Miller, along with that time Elle Fanning dyed her hair and showed the results on Instagram.

This color tends to work better on blondes, says Rua, because brunettes often end up with coppery shades (though, as we mentioned before, that coppery pink can also be really, really pretty,) as opposed to anything in the pink family. The client in question had dark blonde, very straight hair that fell nearly to her hips.
Rua says he was inspired by the Framar foils he uses when highlighting hair. “I saw the color and thought I wanted to do a rose gold,” he says. “I created my own formula to not make it super pink. It’s a matter of formulating it.”

This particular version of the shade looks better on those with lighter complexions, says Rua because “it gives it a nice contrast to your skin tone.”
The color clearly looks amazing on his client. Now excuse me, I have to book a trip to the colorist ASAP.
