Kate Middleton’s hair is every kind of #goal in the book. Bouncy blowout goals, natural color goals, thickness goals, curl goals—there are others, but I’ll stop there. So when Richard Ward, her longtime hairstylist (#clientgoals, too, am I right?), told People magazine about her step-by-step blowout, I figured it would be worthwhile to take notes. I was right. The best part: On Middleton’s hair, he uses a brush that looks almost exactly like the one you probably used on your Barbie doll growing up, and it’s $15.
It’s called the Tangle Angel, and it fittingly looks like a Disney-princess brush. The design (and name) is quite similar to an Allure favorite, the Tangle Teezer, but the fact that this handle resembles a Victoria’s Secret Angel in a slinky silk gown is kind of amazing. Ward uses it to lift and detangle and also notes that it’s antibacterial and anti-static.
In case you’re curious, he shared two other hair-drying tips to get the duchess’s look.
1. When you rough-dry, do so in a gentle and controlled manner on a low speed, and always use a nozzle. “The nozzle is the very thing that concentrates the heat and takes the frizz away,” he said.
2. During the actual blowout, use a nylon-bristle brush that has an evenly distributed design. “As the hair is pulled through, it sits on the barrel at exactly the same time at exactly the same level. This forces the cuticles to close, and that will give you the tension you need,” he said.
Sadly, we’re having a hard time finding the Barbie-esque brush at a trusted U.S. retailer, but we’ve reached out to the brand for details.
