When it comes to models and actresses, there’s an undeniable link between major haircuts and fame. The shorter and more edgy the cut, the higher the “It” status rises—at least for a minute (or 15). Take model Tao Okamoto, for example. When she chopped her long, lank locks into a chic bowl shape, she started appearing in all the biggest runway shows (and even sparked a bowl-cut moment among the fashion set). So what happens when the model or celeb decides to grow out what’s become her signature hairstyle? Consider Carey Mulligan: The young actress became just as recognizable for her breakout role in An Education as for her consummate pixie cut. But at Monday’s 14th Annual Hollywood Awards Gala, the star stepped out with a softer, more grown-out look. While we loved the pixie, we’re also big fans of this softer, shaggier style. What do you think of Mulligan’s makeover? Do you have a signature hair look, or do you like to change it up?
