Of all the factors that go into planning a trip, packing is definitely the least enjoyable thing on the list (a close second is finding decently priced airfare). We can’t count the number of times we’ve left our bags empty until midnight before catching a 5 a.m. flight. The struggle is so real. But it really helps if you have luggage you love that works for you and makes your life easier. Enter Away, a year-old, women-owned company that sells directly to customers, keeping costs low while still putting out a stellar product. We’re in love with the company’s simple and chic bags that make travel a breeze, especially the Medium suitcase. It’s the perfect size for a long weekend away or an overseas trip when we’re forced to pack light. If it’s not already your favorite travel bag, it’s about to be. Here are five things you need to know about Away and the Medium bag:
1. The bags are super-lightweight.
This isn’t your grandma’s clunky luggage. When it’s empty, the Medium weighs in at eight and a half pounds. It’s durable and impact-resistant, too, thanks to its polycarbonate exterior. Plus, you’ll be able to maneuver it easily on the 360-degree wheels while rushing through the airport.
2. Away’s founders are industry pros.
Steph Korey and Jen Rubio left eyeglass company Warby Parker to start Away in 2015. According to Forbes, they wanted to make high-quality luggage that isn’t too expensive. By cutting out the middleman (that’s the Warby Parker model, as well), Korey and Rubio figured out how to make products with top-notch materials at a lower price—just $275 (for the Medium). Then, to find out more about their customer, they did their homework, interviewing 800 frequent fliers to find out what features matter to them most.
3. The brand created two special-edition colors in honor of Allure‘s 2016 Best of Beauty event.
Those attending the awards tonight will receive either an Allure red or sky-blue bag filled with the winning beauty products. Although these special shades were made only for us and will not be available for purchase, the new Morocco collection stars some great dupes. The Medina Red is a beautiful maroon, and Hammam Blue is a dusty blue (above).
4. The removable bag will make laundry less of a chore.
Washing your dirty clothes when you get home is much easier when you don’t have to sort through the contents of your suitcase. With Away’s suitcase, all you have to do is take out the zipper pouch and head right to the washing machine.
5. Overpacker? Away has a solution for you.
With the help of a patent-pending compression system, you can throw in that just-in-case dress without sitting on top of the suitcase to make it fit. Just buckle everything in with the adjustable straps, and you’ll be good to go.
