As a beauty editor, I get a lot of beauty-related “emergency” texts from friends throughout the day. “I’m in Sephora and need a face cream—help.” “On my way to a wax—what are people doing with their bikini lines these days?” “Please, please send me the name of an eyeliner that won’t settle into my crease halfway through this date.” But there was one text this week that I didn’t have the answer for: “Cat, I have really dry and flaky eyelids. What do I do?” I was stumped, so I went to ophthalmologist Susan Resnick for the answer.
Turns out you shouldn’t just slather any old eye cream on your lids—that can lead to stinging and irritation in your actual eye. Instead, one of Resnick’s favorite tricks is to gently rub a few drops of lubricating eye drops (Refresh PM is her go-to) on the surface of the lids before bed. Because it’s designed for the actual eyeball, it won’t irritate or sting the eye if it leaks into it during the night. And it’s chock-full of moisturizing ingredients that will treat the dryness. So there you go.
