Friday marked the first day of spring (hooray!), and while the temperature doesn’t yet call for breaking out the gauzy dresses and sandals, it is the perfect time to refresh your hair and makeup routine. (Because even if you’re still wearing winter cashmere, a bright new lip color reminds you that warmer days are just around the bend). So every day this week, we’ll be bringing you a new trend straight from the spring runways.
First up: Red lips. I know what you’re thinking—red lipstick sounds about as spring-like as a parka. But this season’s reds are bright and glossy—we’re talking cheerful shades of cherry and strawberry, not dark, dramatic reds. Even designer Michael Kors, who normally doesn’t like his models to wear a strong lip color, decided to go with red for spring after seeing a photo of a young Katherine Hepburn wearing the shade…on the beach! This is no doubt what inspired Kors’s makeup artist, Dick Page, to pair it with bronzed skin and a rosy pink blush (my favorite way to wear it). Check out Page’s tips for pulling the look off in our spring trend video:
