Ariana Grande and M.A.C. seem to have hit the makeup-collaboration sweet spot. Back in January, the pair released a deep-black-plum lipstick in honor of the company’s Viva Glam campaign, and now they’re back with two more lip products.
For her second foray into the world of cosmetics, Grande worked to create a hot-purple-pink lipstick named Viva Glam Ariana Grande 2 Deep Cool Pink ($17). The brand is also releasing a shimmery light-pink limited-edition Lipglass called Viva Glam Ariana Grande 2 Neutral Nude Pink ($16). Here’s a sneak peek:
Grande says that she purposely wanted to make her second collection with M.A.C. different than the dark lipstick in her first collection. “My first line was very severe with a light gloss, so I wanted to do something completely different for the second one; I wanted to do something very girlie and playful and young and fun,” says Grande. “But I still wanted it to have a statement lipstick paired with a simpler gloss.”
Judging by how fast Grande’s first lipstick sold out, we can almost be certain that these two shades will fly off the shelves. As always with the M.A.C. Viva Glam campaign, 100 percent of the profits will go toward helping people living with HIV/AIDS. And since Grande has now released four lip products with M.A.C., we wondered: What are her preferences when it comes to wearing lipstick, and more important, how does she put it on? “There’s no right or wrong way. I think mixing and concocting and doing whatever you want and playing with the colors is fun,” says Grande. And her key to preventing lipstick smudging is having a good lip liner. “It doesn’t have to match [the lipstick],” she says. “The one that I use when I wear the plum lipstick in my collection is a magenta M.A.C. lip liner,” she says. “Even though it’s a lot brighter, I use it for both of the lipsticks.” Grande’s lipstick inspiration in none other than Marilyn Monroe. “Have you seen those lips? When she’s acting, she’s like, ‘Look at my lips, girl,'” says Grande. “I first saw her when she had a very small part in All About Eve, and she was Marilyn right from the start. She had the shiny lips, she had the doe eyes, and she had the shiny cheeks. She was Marilyn from day one, and the lipstick was always such a huge part of it.”
The new Ariana Grande x M.A.C. lip products will be available on September 8, making them a perfect way to add some pop to the beginning of fall.
