Burt’s Bees has slow-drip teased us with lip balm, skincare, and even protein powder launches — and now, finally — BB is answering our green beauty prayers for a full range of color cosmetics. That’s right: It’s only a matter of time before you can outfit your entire face in Burt’s.
Currently, the brand offers only a handful of tinted products, including a BB cream, lip oils, lip crayons, and these uber-creamy, Best of Beauty winning lipsticks. The Burt’s Bees Beauty collection hits shelves in September and includes “seven classic essentials”: Liquid foundation, powder foundation, blush, mascara, eye shadow, eye liner, brow pencil, and glossy lipstick. Deets below.
The liquid foundation ($16.99) is definitely full coverage, yet it manages to pull off a glowy — not cakey — look, thanks to super-hydrating meadowfoam. The formula comes in 12 shades, ranging from “porcelain” to “chestnut,” though TBH we’re hoping they’ll add more to the spectrum. Same goes for the powder foundation, which has a non-drying, mattifying finish and satisfying sheen. We just wish there were more shades!
The blush ($9.99) comes in three natural hues, aptly named Shy Pink (a barely-there rose), Toasted Cinnamon (a sandy bronze), and Bare Peach (you get the idea.)
The glossy lipsticks ($8.99) are neither gloss nor lipstick. They’re SUPER hydrating and actually comfortable on the lips, thanks to superstar moringa oil (sidenote: anyone else noticing how moringa is trending?)
Anyway. It’s safe to say you can’t go wrong with any of the your-lips-but-better shades, which range from taupe-y nude to flushed pink. In short, these lipsticks prove, yet again, that Burt’s knows how to make one killer lip product.
That said — the eyeshadows ($12.99) might just be our favorite of the Burt’s makeup launches. There are four mini-palettes — each with a trio of complimentary, can’t-go-wrong-together neutral colors. The most exciting: Country Lavender, which is a totally wearable (read: NOT cheesy) blend of lilacs.
As for the eyeliner ($9.99): it’s a pencil in three standard shades (grey, black, brown), which are formulated with mango oil for easy, smooth application that doesn’t drag. Simple yet reliable, they’re like the LBD of the eyeliner world.
The mascara ($12.99) comes in two shades: Classic Black and Black-Brown. If we were to categorize the formula, we’d say it’s lengthening, and (to nobody’s surprise) it’s suuuper nourishing, thanks to jojoba and glycerin.
The brow pencil ($9.99) is also jojoba-infused, yet not at all smudgey so there’s no fear of mussed brows or stray pencil marks. Plus, the flip side of the pencil features a convenient spoolie for brushing wiry hairs into place.
Bottom line: Burt’s Bees Beauty is exactly what it claims to be: A collection of makeup staples with skin-nourishing benefits and cruelty-free sourcing. Plus, with every item in the collection under 17 dollars, you can hardly beat the price/quality ratio. Come on, September!
