The Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette has not been without its trials and tribulations. Usually the struggles of creating the perfect product are usually kept out of the public eye, but Subculture’s have been on full display. First, the palette leaked on Reddit two months before it was even announced. And now that it finally launched, Subculture has received some underwhelming reviews.
Makeup artists and ABH customers have taken to social media to express concerns with Subculture. The biggest feedback was in regards to the formula and fallout. Beauty vloggers like Alissa Ashley and Skelotim have posted videos of the shadows crumbling as soon as they dip a brush into the shadow pans. They also noted how powdery and hard to blend the shadows are, too.
Claudia Soare, the cosmetic company’s president and daughter of Anastasia Soare, quickly responded to the backlash on her personal social media platforms. She posted a statement on her Twitter explaining the shadows are “super pigmented” and has been drop tested. However, “All production has a tiny % of leeway for random issues/defects because nothing is perfect, ” she added. She also stressed that she is all about making sure ABH’s customers are happy.
With that in mind, Soare advised people on Twitter to contact Anastasia Beverly Hills’s customer service or the store where they brought the palette to receive a full refund if they are unhappy with its quality.
Soare noted that the shadows may be loose because this is the first time the cosmetic company used automated pressing for its palettes. For the next round, Soare said ABH will be sure to press the powders into their pans harder.
To investigate the situation further and help improve future batches of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette, Soare visited the lab where they are made yesterday. She posted pictures of her visit on her personal Snapchat and brought a video camera with her to document the process.
A spokesperson for Anastasia Beverly Hills told Allure that Soare will continue to do so and post updates about the palette on her social media channels.
