You know who looks totally spectacular lately? Hilary Duff. Her makeup game was on point this week while she was out promoting the second season of her (very good) TV show, Younger. We hardly ever see Duff wearing deep-red lipstick, and we’ve got to say, she killed this look. Even more, she paired red lipstick with a red dress, and somehow it didn’t look overdone, cheesy, or, well, too matchy-matchy. We asked her makeup artist Adam Brechaud how he helped her pull it off.
Brechaud used Nars Audacious Lipstick in Bette on Duff, and he says that the key to wearing a red lip with a red dress is to create contrast. “The deep red has a cooler blue tone than the dress and feels very old Hollywood,” says Brechaud. “I always like the idea of playing a slightly darker and more saturated lip against the color of the dress. It looks polished and put together. It allows the eye to take in the color of the overall look and still focus on the face.” Brechaud also kept the rest of Duff’s makeup toned down, using the Tom Ford Traceless Foundation Stick on Duff’s skin, and he simply lined her eyes with Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Espresso, then blended Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Bronze on her lids and along her waterline.
