I have to admit that liquid lipstick started to bore me after every beauty brand started offering it. All of them began to seem the same to me — drying and uncomfortable — so I moved onto trying out every colorful eyeliner I could find instead. However, when Thea Green, the founder of INC.redible, recently told me she was about to launch the Real Neon Lip Paint, the cold, dead liquid lipstick part of my heart started to flutter. Once she swatched the product’s fluorescent pink and orange shades, my heart started full-on pounding like it did when I spotted my perfect man during my morning commute. I’d never seen another liquid lipstick like them. They glowed like the signs at all the trendy restaurants in New York City. The difference is the neon lipstick doesn’t need any electricity to power them.
If you, like me, were wondering why its taken so long for a beauty brand to launch a neon liquid lipstick, here’s a quick science lesson: For years, neon makeup has been few and far between due to strict FDA regulations for fluorescent colors. Only eight are approved for cosmetics and they have restrictions on how each is used. The INC.redible Real Neon Lip Paint is formulated with Red No. 28, which is on that list. Taking this account, the liquid lipstick deserves to have “real” in its name.
Science aside, the lipstick’s pigmentation is just as intense as its glow. One coat is all you really need, and the wedge-shaped fluffy applicator ensures that you can do so evenly. The Real Neon Lip Paint feels just as amazing as it looks, too. The mousse-like formula dries down to a velvety soft finish that doesn’t suck every drop of moisture out of your lips. It’s not completely transfer-proof, but it won’t completely come off every time you take a sip of water either. Although if you kiss someone, they will look like they just got back from one of those dayglow paint parties they advertise on the radio.
With neon makeup looks going viral on Instagram and counting as one of spring’s biggest makeup trends, I have a feeling this lipstick is going to sell out fast. (INC.redible also has a track record of doing so within days.) For now, you can still shop the INC.redible Real Neon Lip Paint for $10 exclusively on sephora.com. You might want to get both shades overnighted if you’re going to Coachella this weekend.
