Makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic (who works with Kim Kardashian, among other celebrities, on the regular) is so sought-after for his tutorials and tips that he’s begun holding classes with a $500 entry fee—and selling out. (The next one will be in New York City on September 19.) After one quick scroll through his Instagram feed, it’s not hard to see why: He can completely transform people with makeup. Take, for example, the before-and-after photos he posted recently of a makeover he gave his sister (above). Crazy, right? After pulling our jaws back up from the floor, we asked him how he works his magic.
When you did your sister’s makeup, how did you transform her eyebrows so much? We’re in awe of them—they look so real! “I spent the most time on her brows. She used to have very full natural brow, but after years of tweezing, she has a hard time growing them in. I began by filling in her arch using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz for definition and then added brow powder in a slightly lighter shade over the pencil for volume. It’s all in the strokes and blending.”
Do you have any suggestions for people who have naturally sparse brows and want to make them look full? “Use a pencil first to get the shape right, then layer with powder and blend and brush it through the brows. You also want to use shades as close to your natural hair color as possible.”
Your sister also looks about 20 years younger. How did you do that? “I went all out with contouring, using both cream and powder. I contoured her forehead, cheeks, jawline, nose, and the crease of her eyes using a darker cream foundation, blended very well, and then followed with powder bronzer to set it. I used very little powder bronzer since there was a cream contour as a base.”
Did you use any highlighting tricks? “I highlighted all of the high points of face: I used a lighter shade of concealer under the eyes and on the bridge of the nose, and highlighter on the cheekbones, brow bone, and Cupid’s bow to make lips appear fuller. The key is really to blend until your hand falls off. It’s important to soften the look.”
How long does it take you to complete a makeover like this? “This transformation took about an hour and a half to two hours. Since she’s my sister, she wasn’t allowed to move until I was done [laughs]. I don’t get to do transformations that often, but I love to do them on my sisters or friends just for fun. They love it for the pictures, and my followers on social media really enjoy it, too.”

In the one above, the girl looks like a new person! What was her reaction once she saw her makeup? “She loved it! She was taking photos all night and was so sad when she had to wash her face before bed [laughs]. She especially wanted to keep those brows on.”
