While fashion week is about the clothes, we’re more interested in what happens backstage. Not only is the sacred BTS space rife with genius beauty tips and tricks from the makeup artistry masters, it’s also the testing ground where we get to peep new products we’ll see launched in the coming year.
See: M.A.C. Cosmetics’ new Waterweight Concealer, which quietly snuck its way onto social media during London Fashion Week backstage at the Tommy Hilfiger show. Last week, M.A.C. senior artist Dominic Skinner, who created smudgy charcoal cat eyes on the likes of Hayley Baldwin, and Gigi and Bella Hadid for the grunge-inspired rock show, expressed his love for the new formula on Instagram. According to his post, it’s been his backstage go-to this season. The most used and #MostLoved #Product in my #MakeupKit this season has to be the #NEW #MAC #StudioWaterweight #Concealer,” he wrote. It’s #super lightweight but packs an almighty punch with coverage.”

The name hints that the new concealer, which drops in 2018, will have a lot in common with the brand’s sister product M.A.C. Studio Waterweight Foundation SPF 30 ($35), which is an “ultra-fluid, elastic, gel-serum formula,” known for its buildable coverage and filter-esque blurring effects.
Like a lot of M.A.C. Cosmetics’ most beloved products, the Waterweight Concealer boasts supreme versatility. Skinner says he’s used the formula on its own as a straight up concealer or full-coverage foundation as well as blended with the brand’s Strobe Cream and Fix Plus spray, the result of which is “semi-matte, long-wearing and totally skin-like,” he says. Score.
The only downside to the do-it-all new formula is that you’ll have to wait until next year to get your beauty blender on it. Time to start looking forward to a fresh new makeup routine in 2018.
