Manicurist Jin Soon Choi built her reputation on bulletproof manicures backstage at New York Fashion Week. This year, she’s working under her own product line—and delivering some of the glossiest, sexiest colors we’ve ever seen on ten fingers. We caught up with her at Theyskens’ Theory yesterday to find out how to make our manicures just as runway worthy.
The not-so-secret secret is shine. “When it comes to high fashion, I think high gloss,” says Choi. “Nails should be simple, round, and well-groomed, with a sophisticated color and a high-gloss finish.” This means that as much as Choi loves nail art and glitter, you won’t see it on any of her creations. “It’s more about simple elegance,” she says. Her shades—in creamy colors like nude and cobalt blue—are sold online and designed to look as reflective as gel polish. But if you want to fake a runway manicure tonight, just pick up a good topcoat and reapply it 15 minutes before you leave the house. “The extra layer does magic,” says Choi, who used the same trick backstage this week.
