“On fleek” is a phrase that has launched a thousand ships. Most specifically, memes, T-shirts, salons, and even a fuchsia Tarte lip liner have originated from a Vine (RIP) by a teen known as Peaches Monroee. Yup, those two words used to describe something looking awesome actually have an origin. In a short video, the now 18-year-old said “eyebrows on fleek,” and the rest is history. Now, Monroee plans to create her own cosmetics line. To fund it, she started a gofundme page two days ago with a goal of $100,000.
With the popularity of other teen-originated phrases like “Damn, Daniel” and “Cash me outside,” Monroee, whose real name is Kayla, has been sorely overlooked. And we’re not the only ones who think so. On the gofundme page, Monroee explains the mission behind the future Peaches Cosmetic & Hair Line, as she plans to call it. “In 2014, I made a video talking about my eyebrows, and it became viral,” she wrote. “Here I am three years later still fighting for it. I have not received any money from it or recognition, but this year will be different. I will have my cosmetic/hair extension line. And I will be seen on TV.”
Monroee is currently in college studying nursing, so she obviously isn’t able to fund Peaches Cosmetic & Hair Line herself. So far, 487 people have donated a total of $7,118—and counting. Donations have ranged from $5 to $250. Some people have added notes along with their contributions such as, “You are owed. My eyebrows thank you.” Also, “I counted how many times I used it over twitter, fb and insta, then I added 10 bucks bc I’m old and I can’t get away with saying it that much.” (TBH, that’s a great idea.) A graphic designer even offered to create a logo for Monroee for free.
Specific products other than hair extensions haven’t been announced, but we are—of course—hoping for some brow ones. You can donate and receive updates on the Peaches Cosmetic & Hair Line on gofundme.com.
