True story: I was named after Queen Elizabeth. I’m not British or anything, but my parents thought Andrew and Elizabeth were nice, regal names for their kids. I never really thought about my namesake queen, and never thought I would have anything in common with the now 91-year-old. But according to a report by Insider, Queen Elizabeth and I have something in common: We both love Essie nail polish. In fact, the queen likes it so much, it’s all she wears. According to Essie’s website, her shade of choice is Ballet Slippers and she’s been wearing it for 28 years. Queen Elizabeth’s hairdresser apparently wrote a letter to nail polish Queen Essie Weingarten in 1989 asking for a bottle.
The pale pink shade is a classic one and is perfect for a queen. It makes total sense she would go for something neutral, too, since she’s always in bold, bright clothes. That’s where the queen and I differ. I’m not exactly classic, and I favor Wicked, a dark, edgy red, or Seen on the Scene, a bubblegum pink.
As Insider points out, the pretty shade also got a shout-out by Meryl Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly, in The Devil Wears Prada. So, if it’s good enough for Miranda and the queen, then I guess I should make the classic switch, too. RIP Bobbing for Baubles.
