Considering some new ink this summer? Me neither. I can barely commit to a gel manicure. Two or three days of body art, however—that I can handle. I’m currently tempted by these new no-regrets options:
We had our doubts about the concept of glimmery tattoo jewelry. But then we saw a few people wearing Flash Tattoos in the wild (Montauk), and the effect was actually really pretty. The metallic bracelets, necklaces, and rings shimmer beautifully against bronzed skin. A gorgeous new collection, inspired by henna designs, is coming later this month.
Is that area right below your cuticles looking a little blah? Good news: Nail art is moving (just the tiniest bit) south. Ciaté now sells decals (bows, arrows, diamonds) designed to sit just underneath your cuticles. And Rad Nails’ cuticle tattoos include dots, half-moons, and (ha!) tiny drips.
This Brooklyn-based (of course) website offers hundreds of here-today-gone-tomorrow tattoos. The brainchild of a graphic designer, it’s heavy on cool-kid typographic stuff but also offers some fun color. Celebrate summer with a beach ball inside your wrist or a few Popsicles on your bicep. Or if you’re the flowery type, Tattly just partnered with Rifle Paper Co. to produce several gorgeous bouquets.
Because 2-D tattoos can feel so antiquated, you can now make your temporary ink dance. Tattoos Alive creates designs that move when you scan them with your smartphone (after you download their app, that is). The technology is currently geared toward the under-ten set, but if you’re into robots, fairies, or spiders and like a good party trick, this one’s a winner.
