This past weekend, I ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon — a feat I’ve now done twice in my lifetime (woo!) — and during the 13.1-mile run through my favorite borough’s vast terrain, my lashes — yes, my lashes — were full, luscious, and blacker than ever. And I have Eyeko Sport Waterproof Mascara to thank for that.
Now, I know what you’re probably thinking, “Why would you wear mascara during a race?” Simple: Because I wanted to. Wearing a little bit of makeup during my workouts, even something as rigorous as a half marathon, makes me feel good — confident, comfortable, and made up just enough to look like I didn’t just roll out of bed and head to the corrals (which, let’s be honest here, is exactly what happened).
About an hour before making my way to the Start line to join a few thousand of my fellow runners last Saturday morning, I slathered on my typical ten-step skin-care routine (sorry, but nothing’s stopping me from slapping on some sunscreen and moisturizer — not even a 5 a.m. call time), as well as filled in my brows with my go-to pencil, Hourglass’ Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Warm Brunette and swiped on two heavy coats of the aforementioned mascara (Eyeko Sport Waterproof Mascara).
What I love most about Eyeko’s waterproof formula, other than the fact that it’s an Allure editor favorite and a Best of Beauty winner, is that once the jet-black formula is brushed onto your lashes with its slightly bent wand and its synthetic bristles, which coats from the base, lifting every lash in one fell swoop, it doesn’t budge. Or smudge. Or smear.
Which meant that even with streams of sweat pouring down my face, along with the endless number of water cups I poured over my head in an effort to cool down mid-run, my mascara defied all odds and stayed put for the full duration of my half marathon. Like, even as I crossed the finish line, with tears streaming down my face (so I cry every time I finish a race, who cares?), it still didn’t move. Call me crazy (or don’t, because that’s not actually a term I agree with), but this magical, mystifying mascara is worth every penny of its $26 price tag. Get your own eyeko.com
