Not too long ago, it was a pretty huge trend amongst beauty bloggers to see what everyday items could be used in place of a Beautyblender to apply makeup. Some used hard-boiled eggs; others, condoms (blogger NikkieTutorials even made a spoof video for April Fool’s Day using bell peppers, children’s toys, and Play-Doh to apply her foundation). But in April, beauty blogger and viral-challenge queen Nicole Skyes took the trend to new heights, creating her own version of a Beautyblender — one the size, roughly, of a volleyball. Since its initial debut, it’s picked up steam — and is once again making the rounds on our newsfeeds.
Instead of using the aforementioned items to apply her makeup, Skyes took it upon herself to try and create the world’s biggest Beautyblender (and, of course, see if it would actually work). To create the dinosaur egg-sized blender, Skyes procured a massive plastic Easter egg and used a combination of Flexfoam (a liquid material that hardens into a solid polyurethane foam) and food coloring to approximate the texture and color of the OG Beautyblender. After mixing the materials together, she filled the egg mold with the hot pink foam and waited for it to set. Finally, once the foam had set, she glued the two halves together to create the egg-shaped, jumbo-sized Beautyblender.
Though Skyes admitted that the DIY isn’t practical (“I just wanted to break a world record,” she explained), the oversized blender did work reasonably well to apply her foundation: After using the massive pink egg to apply her foundation (a process that looks as hilarious as it sounds), Skyes concluded: “You could do your makeup super quick with this, because this covers a lot of ground at one time. This thing works so good, I am so pleasantly surprised!”
Again, practical? Not so much. But Skyes’ massive DIY does make for a pretty entertaining watch. Fortunately, there’s more where that came from, with Skyes’ Giant Bath Bomb DIY being another must-watch. Check out her channel here, and decide for yourself if bigger really is better.
