If you’re even remotely as obsessed with Game of Thrones as I am, then you can surely relate to the buzz of emotions elicited whenever any kind of behind-the-scenes info is revealed. And when it’s beauty related? Well, I can almost guarantee you’ll find me on the floor. This is precisely what happened when I stumbled upon this video, which features the cult-favorite show’s makeup and special effects artists and, as Popsugar points out, unveils some very interesting snippets regarding the work that goes into prosthetics and props in each episode.
For starters, could you have guessed that it takes an insane four and a half hours to finish the Night King’s makeup?! It’s true, and in the 15-minute video, they even show us a fun little hyperlapse of Vladimir Furdik (the actor who plays the Night King) getting into character, which includes using airbrush paint and silicone. What’s more? The makeup artist stays on set a full 11 hours to do touch-ups throughout filming. Now that’s some serious dedication.
The video also revealed that they essentially treat props like actual human actors. On a severed limb that would be used for a battle scene, they use real human hairs — curled to look even more legit — and insert them into the prop limb using a tiny needle. The whole process takes an entire day! The dedication is real.
These are just two things that particularly stood out to me as wow-worthy, but if you’re a beauty buff too, and love the show, then I highly recommend tuning in to the whole video. You’ll learn a lot and be able to spit facts at your next GoT viewing party.
