Demi Lovato’s new makeup collection in collaboration with NYC New York Color is the bomb. All the items—including the mascara and the lip-and-cheek stains—cost less than $5 apiece. But there’s one undeniable standout product from the generally awesome collection: the Lovatics by Demi Eyeshadow Palette. People all over the Internet are claiming that it’s a good—much less expensive—substitute for the ever-popular Urban Decay Naked Palettes.
A Reddit user who goes by DRHPSL05 posted an extensive side-by-side comparison of the Lovatics palette and the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette. As you can see in the photo above, there are a lot of similar shades in the two palettes. The user took swatches from the Lovatics palette and the Urban Decay palette, demonstrating which ones are plausible dupes. Here’s the Lovatics dupe (on the top) for High in the Naked Smoky palette (on the bottom):
Here’s the Lovatics dupe for Dirty Sweet, with the NYC New York Color swatch on the top and the Urban Decay swatch on the bottom:
The user says that there is “kind of” a dupe for “Whiskey,” which is a muted brown in the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette. The user says you can “definitely see a difference in opacity in the mattes.” The Lovatics swatch is on top and the Urban Decay swatch is on the bottom:
There’s a pretty believable Lovatics dupe for Dagger. (Lovatics is on top, UD is on the bottom):
Alas, the user seems to note that there is no shade that satisfyingly replicates Black Market. The Lovatics shade (on top) is much more opaque than Urban Decay’s (on the bottom).
So while there aren’t dupes for every single shade in the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette, the NYC New York Color Lovatics palette is pretty similar. Lovato’s palette costs $4.99 on NYC New York Color’s website, and the Naked Smoky palette costs $54 on Urban Decay’s site. The choice is yours.
