For celebrities, Roberts will make house calls, but the rest of us have to wait our turn at his new salon devoted entirely to eyebrow shaping. After waxing our arches, Roberts fine-tuned their shape with his tweezers. Noting a patchy spot on one brow, he suggested Rogaine to regrow the hair: “Five percent dabbed on daily with a Q-tip,” he instructed. As a temporary fix, he filled in the bare spot with a taupe gel pencil and smudged a yellow-pink highlighter beneath our brow bone to emphasize our new and improved arches. We’re happy to wait for that kind of result (if we get antsy, Roberts’s publicist told us he’s trained two “mini-Damones” who are easier to book).

Bolaños may be the man behind Sarah Michelle Gellar’s brows, but don’t ask him to copy them—or any other celebrity’s arches. “You shouldn’t follow celebrities because they’re so often overplucked and filled in with too much powder and pencil,” Bolaños scolded when we happened to mention another actress. “Brows should be classic.” After waxing, tweezing, plucking, and trimming ours, he dabbed our pink skin with calming azulene oil and brushed the hairs into place with clear Lola Brow Gel. Regardless of what Bolaños said, we thought the final result made us look like a movie star.

“Brows R Us.” Eyebrow shaping, tinting, and lightening. Hey, wait: One to two months for Weston; no wait for staff. Nitty gritty: After brushing our long eyebrows up and snipping the ends so they’d appear fuller, Weston tweezed strays and applied taupe powder. She taught us how to get the red out of our eyelids, chin, and nose with her yellow-toned Candlelight Spot Stick. When she was finished, she took a Polaroid (for us to use as a cheat sheet later). What you see: The lobby of a 1920s vaudeville theater. What you hear: Boy George and Verdi. Pampering quotient: High, comfy leather chairs, and a well-stocked bathroom. Intimacy issues: The four makeup stations are staggered so that it’s just you and your teacher in the mirror—no looky-looks. Famous faces: Bette Midler, Elizabeth Berkley, and Lisa Marie Presley.
