**I kind of knew this was coming. There I was in the office of Park Avenue body waxer, one of the best in the business, and we’re talking about her trade for an upcoming story for Allure—which you’re going to love, by the way, it involves naked people—when this Romanian-born master of depilatory science takes on a maternal tone and points the patch of skin between my eyebrows.
“You’re a handsome guy,” she says, kindly. “But what’s going on here?”
So the patch of skin between my brows is a little hairy. Not Cro-Magnon shaggy, not Frida Kahlo crazy, but pensive-seeming, maybe, like I’m chewing on a serious thought instead of counting down to the Top Chef finale.
Then, as if somebody were reading my thoughts, one day last week a package arrived on my desk containing a Parissa Wax Strips Brow Groomer kit for men. The instructions inside were crude, but then so is the process. You warm a thin wax strip between your hands, pressed it hard between the eyes, tug at it violently, and zzzippp!, your unibrow is gone.
Well, mostly gone. The whole process took all of two minutes, and fortunately nobody else walked into the Allure men’s room (yes, there is one). I did disobey the instructions slightly, by immediately applying a second strip at risk of irritating the skin, but it did the trick. The results? Impressive. Or, in the words of one officemate, “your face looks more open, fresher.” I’ll take that, I thought. With seven more strips in the box, I’m not going to look all thoughtful until at least the end of the summer.
