Heidi Montag has been in the spotlight for a lot of reasons. There’s her friendship with Lauren Conrad (which sort of went down in flames, as reality TV fans will remember), her romance with Spencer Pratt (resulting in the most perfect celebrity couple name: Speidi), and then there is the time that she underwent a number of plastic surgery procedures at once that she literally died on the operating table.
Let’s go back to 2010, when Montag infamously went under the knife for a total of 10 surgeries in the course of 24 hours. Apparently, however shocking the choice was, the world was unaware of just how seriously terrifying the entire experience was for Montag herself.
“Spencer thought he lost me,” she recently told Paper magazine. “I died for a minute. With that much surgery, I had to have 24-hour nurse care and Spencer didn’t want to leave my side…My security guards called Spencer and told him, ‘Heidi’s heart stopped. She’s not going to make it.'”
And apparently when Montag did pull through, things did not get any easier. “I was at a recovery center and had Demerol to deal with the pain because it was so extreme,” she continued. “Cutting yourself up isn’t something I’d recommend, and Demerol isn’t anything to play around with. That’s how Michael Jackson died.”
Montag calls this time period her rock bottom, but also says that it helped put her life into perspective. “A lot of positive things came out of that. I had to look at myself in the mirror every day healing, and be like, ‘What did I do to myself? How did I get here? What is going on?’ I basically had to hit that rock bottom moment in my life, to realize what was important to me,” she said.
Thankfully, Montag and Pratt are now happily raising their newborn son, Gunnar, and doing things like feeding hummingbirds via sunglasses and surrounding themselves with crystals.
