You’ve probably seen hair and face oils, but this year there’s a new slick moisturizer in town: lip oils. They’re tinted. They’re moisturizing. They minimize the appearance of fine lines around your mouth. They broker world peace (kidding!).
I got turned on to lip oils by Margarita Ariagada, senior vice president of merchandising at Sephora (that fancy title means she gets to pick the beauty products sold there). “Tinted lip oils with anti-aging benefits are a completely new category for us,” she says. “We’re really excited about them.” The first one to launch at Sephora: Bite Beauty Cinnamon Plumping Oil, with moisturizing argan oil and the antioxidant resveratrol. I’ve been testing it out (i.e., smearing it on) since I got a sneak peek last fall. I like that the oil feels moisturizing in a light—not greasy, slick, or oily—way, that it stays put for about an hour or so, and that it’s got a really pretty red tint and subtle glossy finish that’s the perfect hybrid of a gloss and a stain. On really cold, windy, lip-chapping days, I still reach for a rich balm, but come spring—or whenever it’s not Arctic outside—I’ll definitely be oiling up.
