It seems like there’s a run on a Lush Cosmetics body lotion at least once a year. In 2017, it was Sleepy Body Lotion, thanks in part to online reviews in which fans swore it was the only thing that helped them overcome insomnia. And now, Lush has the internet to thank yet again for a sudden surge in demand for a moisturizer that’s proving to be soothing in a different way: Dream Cream Body Lotion.
When U.K. mom Sarah Rudd posted photos of her baby boy on Facebook before and after she used Dream Cream on his eczema flare-up, she probably wasn’t expecting her testimonial to go viral, but it has since been shared more than 40,000 times and garnered more than 30,000 comments in less than a week.
“Final post about the baby’s skin, most of you saw he was a hot mess last month with the eczema he’d had since birth… nothing we were prescribed worked, even hydrocortisone cream didn’t touch it. Tried dairy free formula, Dermol, Nizarol, Aveeno, Oilatum… nothing made a difference. He didn’t sleep for 4 months because he scratched non stop all night,” Rudd writes, describing a struggle many people — babies included — can relate to. “After a shout out we were recommended Dream Cream by Lush and gave it a go; it’s transformed his skin and he’s now completely and utterly eczema free. For anyone else having a hard time, it’s done the job for us.”
The result of that post’s virality: Sales of Lush Dream Cream went up 184 percent in just 48 hours, Refinery29 reports. Inevitably, that meant the cream — which includes oat milk, rose extracts, organic extra virgin olive oil, fair trade organic cocoa butter, chamomile blue oil, tea tree oil, and lavender oil, along with several “safe synthetics” — sold out. But Lush has seen this kind of enthusiasm before, and it was able to restock the lotion within just a couple of hours.
You know what that means: If you’ve been looking for something for your (or your baby’s or partner’s) skin, you can head on over to lushusa.com and get yourself a big jar of Dream Cream for $30.
If you believe you’ve been experiencing a skin condition, make an appointment with your dermatologist for treatment.
